FRIDAY FANTASY 35

These photos of Anguie were posted on one of the Yahoo Groups, but originally appeared at FlavaBoy.com

Anguie is a Friday Fantasy not because he is unapproachable or unattainable, but because he is truly sexy. He is, as they say, the total package. Anguie has a certain mystique about him also, which makes him even more desirable to some. He has been known to disappear from the scene, then reappear.

If he's what your fantasies are made of, you can find him in the discos of Santo Domingo.

The More Things Change...

...the more they stay the same. I stayed at the Coral Costa Caribe Resort the first time I travelled to the Dominican Republic. As a novice, I didn't know the hotel was NOT in Santo Domingo as the travel agent lead us to believe. It's actually in Juan Dolio, about 45 minutes outside the capitol. Never-the-less, we were very happy with the accomodations and the service was great!! The cuisine and nightly entertainment were first rate. This was all before Coral and Hilton joined hands to sing Kumbaya. So, for those wondering how things will be now that Hilton is out of the picture, don't worry. Also, the capitol city is all abuzz with activity. There is yet another player on the field, which should offer nice accomodations at reasonable rates.

Coral is no longer a HiltonCoral Hotels & Resorts
The joint venture was dissolved after a three-year relationship. Hilton president Matthew Hart described the relationship as successful. Coral by Hilton operated four all-inclusive hotels in the DR - Boca Chica, Juan Dolio, Bayahibe and Puerto Plata. DR1 sources indicate the properties have been purchased by a sister company of the Spanish airline, Air Europa. The sale of the hotels is part of the divesting the new Dominican monetary rules require of finance conglomerates. The hotels were owned by an affiliate of the BHD bank.

Modern hotel for new city center
InterContinental Hotels Group, the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms, will operate the new Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Santo Domingo, slated for opening at the end of 2007. The new hotel site is on the corner of Abraham Lincoln Avenue and Rafael Augusto Sanchez Street in the bustling new commercial and residential district of Santo Domingo, yet it was lacking of a major hotel. This will be a 7-story, 145-room hotel. IHG already manages the InterContinental V Centenario on the Malecon in Santo Domingo.

FRIDAY FAVORITE 12

Now here's a twist. This young Dominican-American is not someone I know personally. His pic was emailed to me by one of my readers in New York, who gave me permission to post it on the blog. Mucho gracias Senor Ramirez for sharing one of YOUR favorites with us!

SPRING CLEANING

For those of us who have enjoyed strolling the Conde and exploring the Colonial Zone, yet pointed out how dirty and unsightly things can appear at times, here's some good news. The government finally realizes that in order to attract more tourists they need to spruce up the place, not just add more hotels.

dr1 reports that the Colonial Zone has been receiving a makeover as workers continue to clean up the area. Listin Diario writes that the beggars commonly seen around the historic city center have been cleared out and palm trees have been planted around of some of the monuments and sites. Many buildings have been painted and the trash in the area is being removed. Also, seats have been placed at the Maria Toledo Park and a water fountain is being fixed. The biggest headache for Tourist Police at the moment is the shoeshine boys who are considered a nuisance for tourists walking around the historic city center.

FRIDAY FAVORITE 11

One of my favorite photograhers is Ian Shirley. He has a great eye for capturing the awesome beauty of the Mr. Caribbean International participants. His work makes me want to lift anchor and set sail with them on those turquoise waters to uncharted destinations!

DISCOVERY

There has been some talk, and some questions asked, about the new hotel adjacent to Independence Park in Santo Domingo. Hotel Discovery is in an excellent location, overlooking the park. It is said to have some rooms that offer views of the caribbean as well.

It has a rooftop bar, a small pool/jacuzzi, and other amenities. The rates are quite reasonable.

When I spoke to the manager he told me that having guests are not a problem. But as always, I strongly suggest using discretion. You may contact the hotel by calling 1-809-687-4048 or by emailing hoteldiscovery@verizon.net.do
