Travel Easier
According the consul general of the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic Sylvia Johnson, starting today, Wednesday 12 November 2014, getting a visa will be easier and less costly.
The main change is that the applicant will need to make two appointments in order to carry out the application process for a visa, but the purchase of a PIN is no longer necessary. The appointments can be made online through the www.ustraveldocs.com webpage or by telephone.
The first appointment will be to attend the new Visa Attention Center, (VAC) at the Galeria 360 mall on John F. Kennedy Avenue. There they will have their photograph and fingerprints taken. The second appointment, if required, will be at the United States Embassy for an interview with a consular official.
The visa application fee will cover all aspects of the visa including the two appointments and the delivery of the passport. There used to be an additional fee for the delivery. Johnson said that the interview process at the embassy would be faster because more applicants can be seen each day and, therefore, waiting time for appointments will be reduced significantly.
Renewals of the same type of visa do not require consular interviews.
