Investing In The D.R.
Aside from buying property or becoming a business owner, investing in the country you love to visit has been limited. Though it may require more investigation, here is a new opportunity as reported by dr1.com
The Santo Domingo Stock Market, one of the little-known features of local financial life, is now open to small investors, according to the Superintendence of Securities. The official said that for the past two months they have placed a regulation that says when new products enter the securities market there is a five-day window for small investors (from RD$1,000 to RD$500,000) to participate in the sale. Thereafter the big investors can set up shop. He noted that on other occasions major investors have taken positions within minutes of a bond issue going on sale. According to the Superintendent, the market is moving some RD$350 billion in securities a year and this year the forecast is to go over RD$400 billion.

Carnival Time!
from dr1:
February and March are two of the best months of the year for visiting the Dominican Republic. Weather is at its best with cool early mornings and evenings, but warm and sunny afternoons. It's also the month for the Carnival celebrations that take place all around the country. It is a time to take great pictures. The best carnivals are held in La Vega, Bonao and Santiago, with activities as of noon on every Sunday in February. Come March, the best of these carnival and smaller representations from other cities in the country, come together for the parades in Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana and La Romana.
In La Vega this year, there is a complete schedule of top popular music performers booked for the La Vega Olympic Stadium. The schedule is:
10 February: 8pm, Jowell and Randy
17 February: 8pm, Don Omar
24 February: 8pm, Prince Royce
Puerto Plata's carnival also takes place on Sundays, with celebrations starting at 2pm at the Malecon, with music shows at 7pm. The grand parade is set for Saturday, 23 March.
Santo Domingo has its own Carnival, with a special event taking place on Sundays at 5pm with Bonye at the San Francisco Ruins.

Cruising Jamaica?
Perhaps the social climate in Jamaica is changing a bit. It appears one of my favorite sites has taken to the streets to recruit new talent. See more of Tybone at Jamdown Production!
