A new reality series is airing on E television. Escape Club is a one-hour, real-life soap opera where 12 men and women leave their old lives behind them, head for a resort getaway in Punta Cana on the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic and look for a change in their destinies. 
The reality show will have them cut off from the outside world and they will soon learn that living on an island isn't all about suntans and champagne. They must now fight for their spot on the island and prove that they are worthy of the grand prize - an entire year with all expenses paid to extend the escape.

Biggest Discovery Since 1492

DR1 and NY Times: The remains of the ship on which Christopher Columbus first came to the Americas, the Santa Maria, could have been found off the coast of Haiti after 500 years. If confirmed, this will be one of the world's most important underwater archaeological discoveries. The suspect ship is stuck on a reef only 10 to 15 feet beneath the water's surface. 

Columbus would go on to build the first settlement in the New World in La Isabela, on the northwestern coast of the Dominican Republic. 

A recent Barry Clifford expedition has experts 'confident' that the wreck found off the north coast of Haiti is the ship. The whereabouts of the 58-foot Santa Maria had never been known - until now. 

The wreck was found off the northeastern coast of Haiti during an expedition led by Barry Clifford. Clifford is best known for discovering the remains of the complete 18th century pirate ship Whydah in 1984. 

The Santa Maria was used as the flagship for the 1492 discovery expedition, along with the smaller ships remembered as La Nina and La Pinta. 

"All the geographical, underwater topography and archaeological evidence strongly suggests that this wreck is Columbus' famous flagship, the Santa Maria," said Clifford.

Tours "Jump Off"

With the tour starting in Plaza Espana, tourists can now take the Gray Line tour of Santo Domingo, continuing through the 17 attractions, or getting off at any stop to take the next bus in about half an hour. Each tourist gets an audio guide and a map with the points that will be shown. The explanations are in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Italian, Russian and Mandarin. A guide is on board. The tour lasts two hours, with a 5-10 minute stop at each point for taking photos. It starts at 9am and the last tour is at 6pm. 
The company is starting the tour with three buses with capacity for 19 passengers each. The tour is for people of all ages, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. 
The tour includes the Plaza Espana and the Atarazana, the ruins of San Francisco, the Malecon, the Palacio of Fine Arts and the Universidad Autonoma of Santo Domingo (UASD), which was the first university in the New World, founded unofficially by a Papal bull in 1538, and officially by royal decree in 1558. 
In addition, Blue Mall, the largest and most modern shopping center by the Venezuelan Velutini Group, the Botanical Garden, the Estadio Quisqueya, the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium, and the Plaza de la Cultura, which in itself is a unique experience including the National Theater, the National Library, the city's main museums, the Museum of Dominican Man, the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Geography Museum. 
It also includes the National Palace, Independence Park, the Model Market, the first Cathedral in the Americas, Chinatown, the El Conde pedestrian street and the Fortaleza Ozama. For more information, call Gray Line on Tel 809 466-1007.
